Dr. Sonal Patel was born in New York and raised in Bay City, Texas, a small town southwest of Houston. She began fulfilling her dream of becoming a doctor when she attended the University of Texas at Austin where she graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology.
Dr. Patel always envisioned a career in health care. After exploring many areas of medicine, specializing in the eye is what she found to be most intriguing. Dr. Patel was accepted to The University of Houston College of Optometry, one of the top optometry programs in the nation. Throughout her years there, she had many achievements including several letters of clinical excellence. She was also awarded a UHCO IOP publication for her article on "The Implantable Contact Lens." Dr. Patel graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Doctor of Optometry degree in 2001.
Dr. Patel furthered her training by completing a residency in Ocular Disease at St. Joseph's Hospital in Houston, Texas. She is licensed by the National Board of Optometry for the Treatment and Management of Ocular Disease. Furthermore, she has received additional certification in glaucoma and is an Optometric Glaucoma Specialist.
After completing her residency, Dr. Patel embraced the opportunity to gain additional experience in pediatrics. She also has experience in refractive surgery care and geriatrics.
Dr. Patel joined Glaucoma Consultants of Texas in February 2007 where she provides glaucoma care for all patients. With her passion for delivering quality patient care through effective management, she also provides operational leadership as the Chief Operating Officer.
Dr. Patel has been in practice for over 20 years and resides in the Las Colinas area. Her family continues to live in the Houston area.
